Foo Fighters with John Freese

As rain threatened the finale performance at Bonnaroo The Foo Fighters took the stage at 9:30 on Sunday night.

The Foo Fighters stormed through a sequence of absolutely intense songs, ranging from early classics to tracks from the well-received new album, “But Here We Are.” Grohl made repeated pledges to play until the band was ushered out. Simultaneously, the newly onboarded drummer, Josh Freese, a seasoned veteran with credits including Devo and Nine Inch Nails, anchored the rhythm section with powerful and assured beats that reverberated across the field, solidifying his position within the new lineup.

The commanding energy with which the band owned the stage vividly demonstrated why, after almost 30 years, the Foo Fighters continue to reign as absolute rock kings.

A year ago we didn’t know if we would ever see Foo Fighters take the stage again after the death of their beloved drummer Taylor Hawkins so it’s been an awesome summer as we see one of my favorite bands keeping the music alive.

Jelly Roll Makes a Surprise Appearance with Three 6 Mafia

Jelly Roll is having huge success on top of the rock and country charts with his new album Whitset Chapel but the artists has always had strong ties to the rap community.

Jelly Roll joined the Memphis rappers on stage for XX toward the end of their set on the Which Stage on Friday night and the crowd went wild. Three 6 Mafia also be joined Jelly on his highly successful sold out summer tour across the US.

The Revivalists Showcase Their New Album
The Revivalists released their latest album on June 3 and they have embarked on a summer long tour that included major festival appearances including Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Festival. Bonnaroo was the first time that we had heard many of the new songs live and we can’t wait to catch them all summer long during our festival stops. We’re still loving “Kid”, the lead single off the latest record.

Yung Gravy Makes a Comeback After His Fall
Bonnaroo marked the comeback after Yung Gravy took a tumble at Hangout Fest in May at the beach in Gulf Shores forcing him to cancel a handful of dates. This was the first time we saw him live and we absolutely loved the energy and fan engagement he brought to the That Tent performance.

Portugal the Man Debuts New Album
Portugal the Man debuted their new album Chris Black Changed My Life at Where in the Woods with a listening party for fans where they could meet the band in person. Later that day they played many of the new songs live for a packed house at the main What stage.

Odesza Brings All The Fire
We usually don’t love to cover the DJ sets but made an exception for Odesza and it was one of the best stage extravaganzas of the whole festival season.
The musicianship of the drum lines with Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight along with the over the top fire and pyrotechnics that he band is know for made for an amazing experience for fans to close out Saturday night at the festival.

Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X had one of the most fun festival performances of the summer. He had visuals that were headliner worthy with props and amazing dancers that filled the stage. The rapper delivered a performance like no other on Saturday night at Bonnaroo. Adorned in sparkly outfits and accompanied by giant costumed creatures, his show was not just a musical journey but a vibrant celebration of Black joy and queerness.

Taking the stage at the What stage donning a gold breastplate, Lil Nas kicked off the performance with “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” immediately igniting a crowd full of smiles.

He continued to deliver hype after hype with songs like “Don’t Want It,” “Down Souf Hoes,” and his industry-shaking 2019 hit “Old Town Road,” which garnered him and Billy Ray Cyrus a pair of Grammy Awards and catapulted the young artist to stardom.

Beyond his trademark charm and energy, what truly set Lil Nas X’s performance apart was the unapologetic and raw display of his persona.

“It’s Pride month, y’all better make some noise for this gay-ass s***!” he exclaimed.

Sheryl Crow Played All The Hits
Bonnaroo marked the third time we have seen Sheryl Crow this festival season and each performance has been a standout. She sounds better than ever and brings an air of comfort to the stage to provide laid-back festival moments to the sea of fans that made their way to the What stage to see her live.

The entire set is made of Crow’s hit songs that span three decades of her successful music career. Songs included: “All I Wanna Do”, “Soak Up The Sun”, “Strong Enough” and so many more.

MUNA Takes Over the Main Stage
We first saw MUNA perform at Coachella in April and were blown away. This group full of girl-power comprised of Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin, and Naomi McPherson proved that they were made for the main stage at Bonnaroo on XX day. The ladies played music and danced across the stage playing their hits “What I Want”, “Solid”, “Silk Chiffon” and many more.

The trio continued to celebrate Pride Month as they joined Rina Sawayama during her Friday afternoon set at the festival.

MUNA went on to open for Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras tour across the US this summer as their star rises. We cannot wait to see what they have in store for 2024.
