Mitchell Tennpenny Talks New Music, Summer Touring And Folds of Honor

Mitchell Tenpenny is on a roll with radio hits in 2023. He released his latest song and video last week called “Bigger Mistakes.” The song was written by Mitchell, Chris DeStefano, Josh Kear and Michael Whitworth and is the latest new music from the #1 hitmaker, landing just in time for the summer touring season.

Tenpenny’s latest album This Is The Heavy contains the platinum-selling #1 hit “Truth About You.” The song followed Mitchell’s co-penned #1 collaboration with labelmate Chris Young on the ACM Music Event nominated “At The End Of A Bar.”

Mitchell is currently out on a cross-country amphitheater tour across America with Jason Aldean where you can hear him play all the fan favorites each night.

The Travel Addict caught up with Mitchell earlier this summer at the Folds of Honor Softball game to chat about his respect for the military, CMA memories, and what’s in store for 2023.

What is your perfect day in Nashville?

I mean, honestly, this is it. No stress in the world. Getting to play some baseball, hanging out with friends that you don’t get to see a lot. And then obviously doing some work for charity Folds of Honor for sure.

What does Folds of honor mean to you? Why is the military important to you?

Well, it’s the only reason we get to do this. There’s a lot of places in the world that can’t do this and can’t do it this freely. That’s just one of the millions of things we can do because of our soldiers. It’s just one small thing we can do to give back to them for the sacrifices they give every day.

Do you have family in the military?

I do. My Granddad’s passed now but he was in the Air Force. I grew up, seeing those big C-130 planes and he’d take me out to see them. I have all of his old fatigues and military stuff with that Tenpenny name. It means so much to me thinking about what they do in sacrifice.

What’s your favorite part of CMA Festival?

It’s always awesome. Every year it grows and grows and grows. I’m born and raised here in Nashville, so it’s been Fan Fair and CMA Fest for me. So just being a part of it, seeing all the friends and just getting that energy of country music, I mean, this is the greatest place to be for country music during CMA Fest.

What was your first CMA memory?

It would have been at the fairgrounds years ago when it was called Fan Fair. I remember Brooks and Dunn. Ronnie Dunn was wearing very skinny black jeans. And I told my mom I wanted those and this is before skinny jeans were in. So, I remember that. I never got them, though, and I never grew as tall and lanky as him. (Laughing)

What’s 2023 got in store for you?

We are out on the Jason Aldean tour. We already finished our headlining tour. We’ve got big plans for songs on the radio this year. I mean, life’s good. My wife is releasing music. Her name is Megan Patrick. So just as a family, we’re just really enjoying the ride right now. Everything’s been great.

Have you and Megan toured together?

We did one year in Canada with Old Dominion, but this year she’s actually been doing some shows Lainey Wilson. We’re just all over the place. We love when we get a chance to see each other.

Catch Mitchell on Jason Aldean’s 41-city “Highway Desperado Tour” through October 28. Tickets are available now at Mitchell10penny.com.
