Metallica Brings Halloween to Life at the Sphere in Las Vegas

Halloween in Las Vegas is always a spectacle, but on October 31, 2026, the city’s biggest celebration of heavy metal took place inside the Sphere. Metallica brought its Life Burns Faster residency to the immersive Las Vegas venue for a two-hour performance packed with classics, deep cuts, Halloween surprises and the kind of massive audiovisual experience that makes seeing the legendary metal band at the Sphere unlike a traditional Metallica concert.

The Halloween performance followed the residency’s “No Repeat Weekend” concept, giving fans a different setlist from the October 29 show. Metallica opened with “Blackened,” immediately launching the crowd into a ferocious mix of songs spanning the band’s decades-long career. “Fuel,” “Leper Messiah” and “Devil’s Dance” kept the energy high before the band moved into “72 Seasons,” the title track from its most recent studio album.

A Howling Halloween Debut

One of the night’s biggest surprises came with “Of Wolf and Man.” The track, from Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album, made its Life Burns Faster residency debut on Halloween night. The choice could hardly have been more appropriate for October 31, and the Sphere’s enormous wraparound screen gave the song an especially cinematic setting.

The band continued with “The Day That Never Comes” and “The Outlaw Torn,” showing the depth of Metallica’s catalog rather than relying exclusively on the biggest hits. That variety has been one of the strengths of the Sphere residency, with the band rotating songs throughout the run and giving longtime fans plenty of reasons to see more than one show.

Then came the evening’s most obvious Halloween moment.

Kirk and Rob Get Into the Halloween Spirit

Metallica’s instrumental “Kirk and Rob Doodle” has become a space for guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo to have some fun with the audience. On Halloween, the pair incorporated “The Addams Family” theme into the jam before moving into “I Disappear.”

Trujillo, dressed in an orange rockstar wig, introduced the segment as something the two had been working on specifically for the occasion, while Hammett joked about his Halloween costume. It was a lighter moment in an otherwise relentlessly heavy night and a perfect reminder that even a band as legendary as Metallica can still have fun with the spectacle.

Following the Halloween jam, Metallica returned to its more familiar territory with “The Unforgiven,” one of the most recognizable songs from the Black Album.

Remembering Cliff Burton

The mood shifted again with “The Call of Ktulu,” the instrumental from Ride the Lightning that the band dedicated to its late bassist Cliff Burton. The song provided one of the more atmospheric moments of the evening within the Sphere. A giant sea monster took over the Vegas strip on the massive wrap around screen proving to be some of the most striking visuals of the night.

Burton died in 1986, but his influence remains deeply woven into Metallica’s history. Including “The Call of Ktulu” on the Halloween setlist offered longtime fans a meaningful connection to the band’s early years.

The concert then accelerated toward its finale with “Hardwired,” followed by the traditional Irish song “Whiskey in the Jar,” a Metallica favorite from the Garage Inc. era. Massive bar scenes.

Metallica’s Classics Close the Night

The final stretch of the concert delivered three songs that have become essential pieces of the Metallica live experience.

“For Whom the Bell Tolls” brought the familiar opening bass line and massive guitars, followed by “One,” which transformed the Sphere into an audiovisual extension of the song’s dramatic intensity. The videos were World War 2 fighting scenes filling the screens set to some of the bands greatest hits.

Then came “Enter Sandman.” It was an especially fitting way to close a Halloween concert with a giant. As the opening notes of Metallica’s signature hit rang through the venue, the audience erupted, turning the final song into a giant singalong and giving the night an appropriately ominous conclusion set under a red moon.

The October 31 show ran approximately two hours, beginning at 8:50 p.m. and ending around 10:50 p.m.

More Than a Concert

Metallica’s Life Burns Faster residency has become more than a series of concerts. The band has created an entire Las Vegas takeover surrounding the Sphere shows, including a pop-up shop and fan experience at The Venetian, memorabilia, interactive exhibits and other events.

That makes a Metallica trip to Las Vegas feel less like simply attending a concert and more like stepping into the world of the band. The Sphere takes that experience even further. Its enormous interior screen allows Metallica’s music to become a visual experience as well as an auditory one, surrounding fans with imagery and effects that would be impossible to replicate in a traditional arena.

For longtime Metallica fans, the Halloween show also offered something particularly special: a setlist that dug into the band’s catalog while still delivering the songs everyone came to hear. “Of Wolf and Man” gave the evening a rare-song moment, the “Kirk and Rob Doodle” added a dose of Halloween fun, and “The Call of Ktulu” honored the band’s history.

Add “Blackened,” “Fuel,” “The Unforgiven,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” “One” and “Enter Sandman,” and the result was a Halloween night that felt made for Metallica.

In a city famous for big entertainment, Metallica proved that heavy metal can still be one of Las Vegas’ biggest spectacles—and at the Sphere, the experience reached an entirely different level.

Metallica’s Sphere Residency Continues Into 2027

If Halloween night left you wanting more, Metallica’s Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere is far from over. The band returns to the Las Vegas venue November 5 and 7, 2026, followed by an extended run of 2027 dates beginning January 28 and 30. Additional Sphere shows are scheduled February 4 and 6, February 18 and 20, February 25 and 27, March 4 and 6, and March 11 and 13, 2027. The residency is currently scheduled to conclude March 13.

After the Sphere residency, Metallica will take the M72 World Tour back on the road in North America. The 2027 stadium tour begins May 8 in Vancouver before traveling through cities including San Diego, El Paso, San Antonio, Fayetteville, Kansas City, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Madison, Cleveland and Salt Lake City, with the current North American run scheduled through June 19. Limp Bizkit and Avatar are set to join as support acts.

For fans who want to experience Metallica in the most immersive setting possible, the remaining Sphere shows offer another opportunity to see the band surrounded by the venue’s massive 360-degree visuals. For those who prefer the energy of a stadium crowd, the 2027 M72 World Tour promises a very different—and equally massive—concert experience. Either way, Metallica shows no signs of slowing down.
