Katie Dempsey, better known by her nickname and stage name Demps has moved her way into the mainstream country music scene. This single mom started out in 2020 as a music promoter on TikTok but soon made her way to singing and songwriting when she got noticed by an independent label. Between taking care of her child, writing music, and making TikToks, Demps has her hands full but is ready to take on the challenge.
Demps gained popularity from her 2024 single releases like the upbeat “If You Were A Country Girl,” “Who’s Who,” and “B*tch On Wine,” which made it onto the ITunes Charts. Her most recent single release was in January called “I Care What You Think.”
Her new song “Boy Bye” is set to be released on March 21, just a few days from now. The song tells the tale of a difficult heartbreak and the struggles that come along with it; an emotional breakthrough that is new to Demps and her writing.
Produced by John Luzzi and Brett Hutton of 53|01 Ethika, this bold breakup anthem finds her cutting ties with a toxic ex, exposing his inconsistency, and reclaiming her self-worth with a mix of sass, humor, and confidence. The lyrics channel her frustration with a guy who played games and only appeared when it suited him, ultimately leading her to realize she deserves better and won’t be fooled by his empty promises or half-hearted attempts to return.
We met up with Demps during this year’s Country Radio Seminar at Country Now Live where we chatted about her upcoming single, her perfect day in Nashville, and her new journey writing her own songs.

Tell me about your upcoming song “Boy Bye.”
Do we have a bottle of tequila? Obviously, it’s about a man who broke my heart, and it came from a very vulnerable place. I think I cried writing it and definitely cried when I cut the demo.
You’ve been teasing it on TikTok. When is it coming out?
It’s coming out March 21. I’ve been teasing it. I didn’t think I would ever release this song, to be honest. It had such a great response on social media, and now I feel like I don’t have a choice. I gotta release this, so it’s in the works.
What makes the perfect TikTok?
Lighting and just being yourself.

What’s in store for 2025?
Definitely staying single in store for 2025. Definitely being single, that’s for sure and new music.
What would be a perfect date with all your girlfriends?
Going to a winery, eating the best cheese from Kroger, and just having wine night. Being barefoot in a winery. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom and I love my wine night.
Do you have any tips for traveling with your family?
Honestly, having a great itinerary and making sure everybody’s on the same page in the group chat. Share that itinerary.

What’s your perfect day out in Nashville?
It would have to be sunny, 72 degrees, wearing a cute outfit. Honestly, getting some lunch by myself on a rooftop. I don’t want to say my favorite rooftop because that’s a hidden gem, but honestly, rooftop vibes all day long with that 70-degree weather in Nashville.
Since we talked last, you started writing your own music. What’s inspiring you right now to write?
I’m going to be real. I never went to therapy, and I think this is great therapy for me. I really got in touch with, as weird as it sounds, my feelings and I’ve just been putting it down lyrically and it’s been amazing. It actually came so easy to me when it came to songwriting, and I was actually quite surprised. Now I can’t put the pen down. I think after you go through such a heartbreak, you have no choice but to pick up that pen and journal and just put all your thoughts down. That’s what makes the best songs.

Have you written with others or are you doing it by yourself?
I’ve written with a few friends. Shout-out Caitlynne Curtis! She’s absolutely amazing. She really helped me get in touch with my feelings.
How do you decide how to put your lyrics to music?
I think it’s just how you tap your boot. You just find a rhythm like that If it’s going to be a fast-paced song or a slow song when you put it to music.
Have you ever had a place inspire a song?
I have not had a place inspire a song yet. I mean obviously I see nothing but Nashville, but I haven’t had a place. Maybe the beach.
