Kenny Chesney Launches His 2026 Sphere Residency with a Sold-Out Celebration of No Shoes Nation

After months of preparation, Kenny Chesney officially kicked off his highly anticipated 2026 residency at Sphere on Friday night, welcoming a sold-out crowd of No Shoes Nation faithful for a show that combined cutting-edge visuals with three decades of country music memories. For fans inside the venue, opening night felt less like the beginning of a residency and more like a reunion.

Long before Chesney stepped onstage, the massive walls of Sphere displayed photographs from throughout his career, chronicling his rise from East Tennessee dreamer to one of country music’s biggest touring artists. Images from stadium tours, backstage moments, and years spent on the road gave fans a nostalgic look back at the journey that built No Shoes Nation.

An Epic Opening Sequence

The evening began with one of the most visually stunning introductions ever seen at Sphere. Fans were transported beneath the ocean as schools of fish swam overhead before the visuals shifted into tropical islands filled with waterfalls and pirate ships sailing across the sea. The cinematic sequence eventually guided the audience toward Las Vegas and Sphere itself, setting the tone for a night built around adventure, memories, and escape.

As the visuals faded, Kenny Chesney emerged wearing a red shirt and jeans to a thunderous ovation. “Welcome to the first show of 2026,” he told the crowd as he launched into “Here and Now.” Chesney explained that he and his team had been planning and rehearsing the production since February and admitted it felt great to finally perform in front of a live audience again after months of preparation.

Experiencing Sphere from the Sandbar

We experienced opening night from the Sandbar, the standing-room section directly in front of the stage. Positioned beneath the towering wraparound screen, the experience is always unlike any concert setting we’ve encountered before and the absolute best venue for a unique experience in the world.

Celebrating East Tennessee Roots

Throughout the night, the visuals enhanced the stories behind the songs. One of the most emotional moments came during “I Go Back.” As Chesney sang about memories and hometown connections, the screens showcased imagery from East Tennessee, paying tribute to his roots.

A Tribute to Country Music’s Women

During “Big Star,” Sphere became a celebration of some of country music’s most influential female artists. Photographs of iconic performers appeared throughout the song, including Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire, Loretta Lynn, and rising superstar Megan Moroney. The tribute added another layer of emotion to a song already centered around dreams and the artists who inspire them.

Eric Church Joins the Party

One of the biggest highlights of the evening came when Chesney welcomed his longtime friend Eric Church to the stage. Before bringing him out, Chesney shared a story that illustrated the depth of their friendship. He recalled how Church left a family vacation last year to perform during Chesney’s Country Music Hall of Fame induction after another guest was forced to cancel because of illness.

Calling Church one of his closest friends, Chesney welcomed him to the stage for a three-song collaboration. Together they performed: “When I See This Bar,” “Drink in My Hand,” and Eric Church’s smash hit “Springsteen.” Eric did forget the words at the beginning and he and Chesney enjoyed an onstage moment from last year when he also forgot his own lyrics and a fan offered him the lyrics on their cell phone.

The surprise appearance generated one of the loudest reactions of the night and highlighted the mutual respect shared between two of country music’s most beloved artists.
