A Pioneer Among Kelowna Wineries

Founded in 1987, CedarCreek Estate Winery was one of the pioneers that helped establish the Okanagan Valley as one of North America’s premier wine regions. Today, the winery is known for producing elegant, cool-climate wines that emphasize freshness, minerality and balance while allowing each vineyard site to express its unique character.

Our visit began in the exclusive members’ tasting area, where winemaker Andrés Galvez welcomed us with an introduction to CedarCreek’s philosophy and guided us through several outstanding wines that showcased the diversity of the estate. It was fun to sit in front of a painted mural wall map of the winery and allow Galvez to share how different terroir on the grounds affect the different wine varietals.

Standout Wines During Our Okanagan Wine Tasting

The first pour was the 2025 Pinot Noir Rosé, and it quickly became my favorite wine of the afternoon. Unlike many sweeter rosés, this vintage was beautifully dry with vibrant strawberry, raspberry and citrus flavors balanced by crisp acidity and a refreshing mineral finish. It was the perfect wine to enjoy while overlooking the vineyards and Okanagan Lake.

Another highlight was the 2022 Aspect Collection Chardonnay, one of the finest Chardonnays we tasted during our journey through the Okanagan. Rather than the buttery, oak-forward style many wine drinkers expect, CedarCreek preserves the grape’s natural freshness and minerality. Bright citrus, green apple and subtle stone fruit flavors are supported by lively acidity that gives the wine incredible elegance. The style reminded us of neighboring CheckMate Artisanal Winery, another producer recognized for crafting mineral-driven Chardonnays that highlight the unique terroir of the region.

The tasting continued with the 2023 Aspect Collection Riesling, offering refreshing notes of lime, peach and citrus blossoms balanced by vibrant acidity and a clean finish. It demonstrated why Riesling continues to thrive in the cool climate of the Okanagan Valley.

Red wine lovers will appreciate CedarCreek’s 2022 Platinum Pinot Noir, a beautifully layered wine featuring ripe cherry, cranberry and subtle earthy notes with silky tannins. Elegant and refined, it perfectly captured the finesse that has made Okanagan Pinot Noir increasingly sought after.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of our visit came when Galvez poured the 2025 Pinot Noir final blend, just days before it was scheduled to be bottled. Few guests ever have the opportunity to taste a wine at this stage of production, making it a fascinating behind-the-scenes experience. Even before bottling, the wine showed exceptional balance, bright fruit and remarkable structure, providing an exciting preview of the upcoming vintage.

Farm-to-Table Lunch at Home Block Restaurant

No visit to CedarCreek Estate Winery is complete without lunch at Home Block Restaurant, one of the top winery restaurants in Kelowna. The modern dining room overlooks the vineyards and Okanagan Lake while showcasing seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms and producers.

We began with the Burrata, served with rocket, fried avocado, fennel salami, estate honey and balsamic, paired beautifully with a glass of the 2025 Estate Pinot Noir Rosé from Oregon.

For the main course, we ordered Home Block’s phenomenal cheeseburger. Perfectly cooked and stacked with fresh ingredients, it was easily one of the best burgers we enjoyed during our visit to British Columbia wine country.

Dessert featured a light and refreshing Summer Fruit Chiffon Cake accompanied by raspberry sorbet and blueberry ice cream, providing the perfect ending to an outstanding meal.
