After The Iconic Barbie Monologue, Where Can You Watch America Ferrera Next?

We love ALL things Barbieland! The movie has brought back the fun to the movie theater experience across the world as fans dress up as Ken and Barbie and see the movie with friends and family of all ages.

Since launching just over one month ago, it has been hard to escape the Barbie movie. As expected, it has become an instant phenomenon that does Mattel’s best-loved fashion doll proud. However, it’s not only Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (Ken) that have received widespread plaudits. For many, America Ferrera in the role of Gloria was the star of the film.

The epic monologue, which can be read in full here (if you’ve not seen the movie, we’d suggest waiting) hits hard. Most women could relate immediately to the words spoken on screen. In fact, we’d not be surprised if it gets quoted for many years to come. Either way, it made audiences fall in love with America Ferrera. If you’re one of those wanting to watch more of the actress’s work, here’s all you need to know about the Latina superstar.

Catch Up On Superstore

Over 7 million Americans tuned in for the series premiere of Superstore in 2015 and it is one of the most popular sitcoms of the past decade. Ferrera was the star of the show throughout the first five seasons and was a recurring character in series six. Set at the fictional Cloud 9 store, the show delivers hilarity from start to finish. Even in the episodes she doesn’t appear.

While reruns are shown in several countries, it is the perfect binge-watch show. With Peacock TV Canada streaming, it’s possible to watch every episode even in a country that doesn’t offer the platform as standard. Amy Sosa is easily one of Ferrera’s best roles, although it isn’t the most iconic of her career.

Revisit Ugly Betty

It’s nearly 18 years since Ugly Betty first hit our screens. It was a phenomenon and saw Ferrera become one of the most important icons on TV. She became the first Latina woman to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. The role landed her multiple other awards, including a Golden Globe.

Over the course of 85 episodes, Ugly Betty changed TV comedy. Even after its fall in the ratings, more than 5 million tuned in for the final series. Even if you watched it back in 2010, you will be sure to fall in love with the show – and Ferrera – all over again. For a nostalgic touch, you could opt for the DVD instead of streaming services.

Prepare For Upcoming Films

Ferrera’s film career started long before Superstore and Ugly Betty, with her first role coming in 2002. While Barbie is her biggest role of 2023, there’s still more to look forward to. Ferrera is also in Dumb Money, a comedy-drama in which she takes on the role of Jennifer Campbell. It will premier at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival and hit cinemas on Oct 6.

Meanwhile, her first scheduled movie role in 2024 is Elio. The Disney Pixar animated film is set to be one of the biggest movies of Q1. Her voice role as Major Olga Solis, the title character’s mother, is hotly anticipated. You won’t see her on screen. Still, her unmistakable voice and acting skills are certain to be fundamental to the movie. We can’t wait.

Go Back To How To Train Your Dragon

Elio isn’t the first animated voiceover role of Ferrera’s. She previously played Astrid Hofferson in the How To Train Your Dragon franchise. The two main movies were major blockbuster hits in 2010 and 2014 respectively. If you watched the PG-13 Barbie movie and want a family-friendly choice to follow Ferrera’s career, this is an ideal path.

Once you’ve watched the two films, there is a long list of other titles in the series. Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon, Book of Dragons, and Gift of the Night Fury followed movie one. Dawn of the Dragon Racers, The Hidden World, and Homecoming followed the second. Between them, they’ll provide hours of entertainment for all the family.

Follow The Angels

As well as following Ferrera’s career on the screen, there’s plenty of real-world experiences to enjoy. Staying at Barbie’s DreamHouse is a potential bucket list item for Barbie fans. Meanwhile, soccer fans can watch Angel City FC at the BMO Stadium in LA. The NWSL side is backed by Ferrera and a host of other famous faces. It is truly Hollywood soccer.

The group is spearheaded by Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman, Julie Uhrman, and Alexis Ohanian. Founders include Serena Williams, Uzo Aduba, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Garner, and Eva Longoria. Whether you love soccer or just want to support one of the most exciting and empowering franchises, you will see stunning results.
