Days of ’98 Show

The Carnival Legend made its way to Skagway Alaska, which is one of my favorite ports of call on our Alaska cruise adventure. We had some time in the morning before our pre-booked excursion to Haines in the afternoon, so we decided to walk around town and see the local sights.

In 1923, passenger steamships started bringing tourists to Skagway and local residents started putting together a show to raise money for local organizations. The show became an instant tradition and still runs today. The Days of ’98 with Soapy Smith was a great way to spend an hour in the morning with locals doing a great job performing in the historic community theater.

Soapy Smith is the story of a soap-peddling con man during the gold rush where he drifted into Skagway in 1987. Ladies of the night also provide fun entertainment in the show by seeking volunteers for audience participation. Make sure to check it out if you have some time in Skagway.
