Backstreet Boys Take Fans on a Larger Than Life Journey at Sphere in Las Vegas

There are concerts, and then there are full-blown nostalgia events. The Backstreet Boys’ “Into the Millennium” residency at Sphere in Las Vegas falls firmly into the second category. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the group’s blockbuster Millennium era, the show combines the songs that defined a generation with some of Sphere’s most impressive visuals.

And the Millennial crowd came prepared.

For this residency, fans have embraced an unofficially official dress code: all white, often accented with Millennium blue or silver, paying tribute to the iconic Millennium album cover and the fashion of the era. The band has encouraged fans to join in, creating a spectacular sea of white inside Sphere

From the moment the lights went down, it was obvious this wasn’t simply a concert. It was a collective trip back to the late ’90s and early 2000s.

A Space-Age Entrance

The show began with a spectacular space-themed sequence. A rocket ship launched into space before the Millennium spacecraft arrived, its beams of light shining down into the venue.

Then came the Backstreet Boys. Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough and Kevin Richardson emerged in matching white outfits and launched straight into “Larger Than Life.” It was the perfect opening.

The five members may have been performing together for more than 30 years, but they looked remarkably comfortable in the enormous Sphere environment. And yes, the group seems to have discovered one of the great secrets of pop stardom: the Backstreet Boys look better with age.

Nick Carter remains the youthful blond heartthrob, AJ McLean has fully embraced his rock-star persona, Brian Littrell brings the familiar emotional vocals, Howie Dorough continues to deliver the smooth harmonies, and Kevin Richardson may have somehow become even more charismatic with time.

25 Years of Millennium

While the residency is built around Millennium, the set reaches beyond the album to celebrate the group’s entire catalog. Songs including “It’s Gotta Be You,” “As Long as You Love Me,” “More Than That,” “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely,” “The One,” “All I Have to Give,” “Drowning” and “I Want It That Way” turned the venue into one giant singalong.

The audience didn’t simply know the words—they knew every single word.

There was something particularly fun about watching an arena filled with adults who had grown up with these songs suddenly become teenagers again. Fans danced, screamed and sang along with the same enthusiasm they probably had when Millennium first dominated the charts.

Sphere Takes the Millennium to Another Dimension

The production is where this residency really separates itself from a traditional Backstreet Boys concert. The Sphere’s massive screen became a constantly changing space-age landscape, with planets, spacecraft, stars and other futuristic imagery surrounding the band. The visuals were some of the best we’ve seen at Sphere, perfectly complementing the show’s Millennium theme rather than simply serving as a giant background.

At one point, the band was elevated on a platform toward the middle of the Sphere, bringing the group physically closer to the audience while giving the venue’s technology another opportunity to create an immersive moment.

The production continually moved between nostalgia and futuristic spectacle—essentially taking the Backstreet Boys’ 1999 world and imagining what it might look like 25 years later.

From White to Black and Hot Pink—and Denim

The fashion wasn’t limited to the iconic all-white opening. During the show, the band changed outfits twice. The first transformation brought out black and hot pink, adding a distinctly Y2K pop aesthetic to the production.

Later, the guys switched into denim outfits for the final portion of the show, bringing the evening back to the casual boy-band style that helped define their original era. The wardrobe changes also kept the concert visually moving, matching the constantly evolving Sphere graphics.

The Hits Keep Coming

The emotional moments were balanced with pure pop fun. “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” brought another wave of nostalgia, while “Shape of My Heart” showed how well the group’s more mature material fits into the set.

Then came “I Want It That Way. There are few songs that can generate the kind of immediate, universal response this one does. Before the first verse was even finished, the audience had taken over.

The closing stretch kept the energy high with “Get Down (You’re the One for Me),” “We’ve Got It Goin’ On,” “The Call” and finally “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

Ending with “Everybody” was a fitting choice. Thirty years into their career, the Backstreet Boys aren’t just revisiting their past—they’re celebrating the fact that their fans never really left.

Backstreet Boys Add New Year’s Eve and January Shows

The residency’s popularity continues to grow. The Backstreet Boys recently announced three additional shows at Sphere for New Year’s weekend, giving fans another opportunity to experience Into the Millennium as the group welcomes 2027. The new performances are scheduled for December 31, 2026, January 1, 2027, and January 2, 2027.

New Backstreet Boys Sphere Dates

  • December 31, 2026 – Sphere, Las Vegas – 10 p.m.
  • January 1, 2027 – Sphere, Las Vegas – 8 p.m.
  • January 2, 2027 – Sphere, Las Vegas – 8 p.m.

The New Year’s Eve performance should be particularly memorable, with the late-night start allowing fans to celebrate the arrival of 2027 with the band.

The Travel Addict Verdict

The Backstreet Boys have created something at Sphere that goes far beyond a greatest-hits concert. “Into the Millennium” is part concert, part nostalgia trip and part futuristic multimedia spectacular.

The songs remain instantly recognizable, the harmonies are still there, the choreography is energetic, and the five members have the kind of chemistry that comes from decades of performing together.

But it is the combination of the music and Sphere’s technology that makes this show special. For anyone who spent the late ’90s with Millennium on repeat, seeing the Backstreet Boys perform those songs while surrounded by spacecraft, planets and a stadium full of people dressed in white is a pretty spectacular way to celebrate 25 years.

And judging by the crowd’s reaction, backstreet is still very much back.
