Mardi Gras Parade Times Moved Up On Saturday Due to Heavy Rain Predictions

Due to the forecast of inclement weather and rain, Mardi Gras Krewes scheduled to roll Saturday will move up times to begin at 9:30 a.m., with reduced elements. The schedule is now as following:

New Time Schedule:

* Krewe of Pontchartrain (starting at 9:30 a.m.)

* Legion of Mars

* Krewe of Choctaw

* Krewe of Freret

* Knights of Sparta (done by 5 p.m.)

The first four krewes will roll with limited parts. The Knights of Sparta will roll Saturday with floats only so there will not be marching bands and walking crews during the parade.

“We run Mardi Gras parades, it’s like the most unpredictable thing in the world so we’re always prepared for this. We’ve got contingency plans that we have been putting together since the beginning of the week. So, we’re ready for whatever happens so, like I said, we want to have a safe ride, a fun ride,” said Bobby Hjortsberg, captain of the Krewe of Freret.

The Krewe of Pygmalion will not roll Saturday.Pygmalion will roll Sunday morning at a new time, 10 a.m., most likely with limited elements as well.

Sometimes the rainy parades can be fun. Many people stay home during bad weather so that makes catching the best throws easier than when the streets are packed with people.

As always take caution with severe weather and anyone heading out to the parade tomorrow should make sure to pack your rain gear.
