Carnival Cruise Line Debuts Vegan Menus This Fall

Carnival Cruise Line is expanding its dietary offerings to include vegan menus this fall. The vegan menus are set to be implemented fleetwide through the end of the year. Each meal in the ships’ dining rooms will offer a selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts that are completely vegan.

“Plant-based food options are a rising preference on our ships just as they are on land, and so the new dishes we’re introducing are a direct response to that shift,” said Richard Morse, senior vice president of food and beverage at Carnival Cruise Line. “Our skilled chefs work to accommodate all dietary needs and preferences but building on our vegan offerings and emphasizing them with specific menus will help to make ordering easier in the dining room and preparation more efficient in the galley.”

The new vegan menus include:

Appetizers:

  • Hawaiian ‘Salmon’ Poke – plant-based salmon, edamame, mango and cucumber
  • Stuffed Mushrooms – fried mushrooms filled with plant-based cheeses and spinach
  • Spaghetti Carbonara – vegan bacon, onion and garlic pasta dish that is available as a starter or entrée.

Entrées:

  • Grilled Tofu Steak – savory tofu steak covered in honey barbecue sauce served with Hasselback potato and mixed vegetables
  • Baked Vegetable Au Gratin – a medley of mixed vegetables, combined with vol-au-vent and sprinkled with melted plant-based cheeses
  • Eggplant Cutlet a la Parmigiana – eggplant cutlet smothered in savory vegan mozzarella and topped with pesto and basil leaves

Desserts:

  • Key Lime Velvet Cake – a spin on the classic key lime pie, this cake marries flavors of citrus with raspberry and strawberry
  • Dutch Double Chocolate Pave – a chocolate lover’s dream with alternating layers of cake and rich buttercream frosting
  • Cappuccino Pot de Créme – cinnamon crème chantilly is surrounded by coffee flavors in this decadent treat

The vegan menus were piloted aboard Carnival Magic. Carnival Dream is the next ship slated to implement the menus. By the end of October, Carnival Celebration, Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Glory, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Vista, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Elation will serve the vegan menus as well. Carnival Paradise and Carnival Spirit will welcome the vegan menus by the end of November. Before the end of December, Carnival Legend, Carnival Venezia and Carnival Jubilee will also offer the vegan menus. Carnival’s ongoing effort to diversify its dishes includes options curated by Chief Culinary Officer Emeril Lagasse in conjunction with Carnival chefs.
