Ritz-Carlton Opens in PNW Offering Great Views of Portland

The 35-story, 251-room Ritz-Carlton, Portland is the first Ritz-Carlton property in the Pacific Northwest. The hotel, which opened on Halloween, offers panoramic views of Portland from its centrally located spot downtown. The hotel features beautiful guest rooms and suites, a signature restaurant and bar, top-notch health and wellness facilities and over 17,000 square feet of event and meeting space.

“As the first Ritz-Carlton property to open in the Pacific Northwest, this project has been an extraordinary collaboration between the brand, ownership, and the Portland community,” said General Manager Marie Browne. “Our team of talented architects, designers, builders, and staff have long awaited the day we are able to open our doors and welcome guests inside this property. We have worked alongside local and regional artisans, purveyors, and tastemakers to create an authentic Pacific Northwest experience, providing a new destination for locals and visitors alike.”

GBD Architects designed the 460-foot crystalline tower. The building has a white base inspired by columnar basalt formations found in the region. Rainfall activates a series of cascading stormwater planters. At night, the building’s top glows like a glittering jewel tucked into Portland’s skyline.

The interior created by ROAM Interior Design, brings the wilderness to modern luxury. The hotel’s art collection features work from local artists that celebrates the Pacific Northwest’s relationship with nature. Upon entry, guests will find themselves in Forest Hall, a grand lobby that encapsulates the lush green landscape of the Pacific Northwest.

Rustic logs bound with copper are used as a nod to the 1845 coin toss that gave the city its name. There are also maps depicting Lewis & Clark’s journey. Raw materials and natural beauty are the focus. Light is cleverly dappled through towering panels, mimicking a forest’s trees. The library lounge features a glowing fireplace surrounded by backlit Verre églomisé glass. Just beyond, Meadowrue, the intimate lobby bar with floor-to-ceiling windows, beckons guests in.

The Ritz-Carlton, Portland has partnered with Coava Coffee Roasters to create an exclusive coffee for the hotel, the Urban Forest Blend. Meadowrue serves as both daytime coffee lounge and an evening gathering space for light bites, craft cocktails and mocktails. Its dishes highlight locals Josephson’s Smokehouse, Olympia Provisions and Rogue Creamery.

207 guestrooms and 44 suites offer guests respite from their travels. Sensual fabrics, soft carpets, luxury leather goods and modern interpretations of historic travel trunks add to the decor that pays homage to the Oregon forest and rivers. The hotel partnered with Pacific Northwest-based Antica Farmacista to create Rose City, a bespoke room scent made exclusively for The Ritz-Carlton, Portland. The scent marries a crisp alpine forest, rare woods, herbal complexity and lush rose.

Additionally, guests have many options for elevated experiences, including:

  • The Ritz-Carlton Club, a warm, inviting lounge dedicated to the maker community. Unique, handmade treasures and local artwork take central focus in this space where five daily meal presentations are served.
  • Cloudbreak on Nineteen, a haven to care for the mind, body and spirit. Here guests can find the Hidden Mountain Lake Infinity Pool, which has breathtaking panoramic views of the Cascade Mountains. The Ritz-Carlton Spa is also here. The spa’s design mimics the unfolding petals of a Portland rose. It offers five treatment rooms where guests can choose from a relaxing spa day or a quick pampering. Lastly, there is a 4,000-square-foot fitness facility and yoga studio on this floor.
  • Bellpine, the hotel’s signature restaurant. Executive Chef Pedro Almeida and Portland Chef Laura Romero have created a menu featuring indigenous ingredients. A world-class wine selection featuring Oregon wineries and unique spirits crafted by regional master distillers beautifully compliments the food.
  • Ascending Mount Hood, the dedicated events floor. Natural light fills the 17,000+ square foot event space, designed to reflect Mt. Hood’s majestic beauty. The space hosts everything from intimate gatherings to galas, weddings or corporate events.

“The Ritz-Carlton, Portland, pays homage to the city’s rich local culture and landscape,” says Jenni Benzaquen, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader of The Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. “Our goal is to establish a beloved presence within both the Portland community and among visitors. The Ritz-Carlton has always been committed to offering guests boundless opportunities for discovery and personal growth, and we are excited to unveil our doors for the very first time in the captivating and inspiring Pacific Northwest.”
