Good Food, Good Music, Good Vibes: Why Buck & Johnny’s Zydeco Breakfast is a Must-Visit

Tucked away in the heart of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana is Buck & Johnny’s, a Cajun Italian fusion restaurant and entertainment venue. The location is known worldwide for its famous Zydeco Breakfast experience. Years ago, David Buck and his daughter purchased the old Domingue’s Motors building, wanting to turn it around into a multi-use space. Buck partnered with his friends Johnny & Coatney Raymond, bringing to life Buck & Johnny’s. The pair has maintained Domingue’s Motors décor, featuring old tin signs and oil can light fixtures and the former parts window serves as the food serving window.

On a Saturday morning, guests wake up early to head to the restaurant for an unforgettable meal. The restaurant hosts about 200 people each breakfast as first-come, first-serve, and an admission of $10.00. As the music fills the room and drinks are flowing, families and couples show off their moves on the dancefloor as Zydeco musicians play. Zydeco is a Southwestern Louisiana style of music and dance created in the 1800’s. It’s a mix of rhythm and blues, and Creole, Cajun, and Afro-Caribbean music. Zydeco is often played with traditional instruments like the accordion, washboard, guitar, and drums.

Buck & Johnny’s Zydeco Breakfast was a highlight of my recent trip to Lafayette, Louisiana. The food was amazing and the music had everyone on their feet dancing. The event takes place every Saturday morning with doors opening at 8 am. Arrive early because the line forms to get the best seats. $10 cover at the door. @buckandjohnnys @LafayetteTravel #buckandjohnnys #breauxbridge #lafayette #lafayettela #zydeco #zydecomusic #dancing #thetraveladdict #travelblogger #travelphotography #cajun #cajuncountry #creole #goodvibes

Our experience at Buck & Johnny’s was so exciting and definitely not something we ever thought we would be experiencing at breakfast. The musical guests for the morning were Gerard Delafose and the Zydeco Gators who got the room moving and grooving. Guests were dancing in between bites of savory Cajun food and laughing the morning away. Who knew breakfast could be this fun? We truly didn’t want to leave the breakfast and can’t recommend this place enough. Good food, good music and good vibes are all served up every Saturday at Buck and Johnny’s Zydeco Breakfast.
