At the Sight & Sound Theaters in Branson, Missouri, the holiday season has brought back the miraculous holiday special, Miracle of Christmas. This awe-inspiring theatrical event tells the story of the first Christmas, bringing the nativity scene to life like never before.
On my recent visit to Branson, I visited Sight and Sound for the first time and attended the production of Miracle of Christmas. The theater show was the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit and remember the reason for the season.
Set in the hills of Bethlehem, the production follows Mary and Joseph on their journey to find shelter and deliver their son, Jesus, amid the awe and wonder of angels, shepherds, and wise men. Through its masterfully crafted sets, live animals, animatronics, and incredible atmospheric effects such as fog, rain, snow, and pyrotechnics, the show immerses audiences in this timeless story of faith and hope.
After the production, we were treated to a Q&A session with the stars of the show. Emily Baker (Mary) and Conor Finnerty (Joseph) discussed the behind the scenes elements of how the productions come together at the theater and how the cast creates a magical audience experience three times per day. Details about how the live animals interact on set and where they live and train were some fun facts to learn.
The History of Sight And Sound Theater
The story of Sight & Sound began with a dairy farmer with his wife in rural Pennsylvania who wanted to share their passion for God and the arts together. In 1987 the couple released their first full-length Biblical production: Behold the Lamb. The organization continued to grow and is now one of the nation’s largest organizations of its kind and sits in the top three theater destinations in the country. Their signature production is their production NOAH which features a 40-foot-tall full arc on stage.
In 2005, Sight & Sound began filming and releasing productions on DVD right in their own theaters. Finally, by 2020, Sight & Sound TV was launched, and their online streaming platform has served a global virtual audience from over 175 countries around the world. In recent years, Sight & Sound announced the creation of Sight & Sound Films and released their debut feature, I HEARD THE BELLS, which premiered in movie theaters nationwide in 2022.
Unlike your traditional theater, the Sight & Sound has a 300-foot-wide stage that wraps around the audience on three sides, and the show extends into the aisles, immersing the audience into the production. The theater can hold about 2,00 people and has floor level and raised seating options, all with an amazing view. You can explore the view from each seating option when buying tickets online.
