Campus Comfort: Why The Inn at Virginia Tech is the Perfect Home Base for Exploring Blacksburg, Virginia

The Inn at Virginia Tech may seem like an unusual leisure travel accommodation, but it’s a wonderful place to spend a few days in the area exploring. If you are in the Blacksburg area to explore and enjoy the sights, consider the Inn as a delightful home base.

Staying in the middle of a college campus was much more peaceful than I anticipated. It backs up to the golf course, and you can see gorgeous views on all sides, including the university itself. Beautiful, locally quarried gray “Hokie” limestone blocks make up the majority of Virginia Tech’s architecture, including the Inn. There’s a collegiate, antiquated charm to the rough stone buildings that surround the large, open green space.

Inside, the rooms are clean, well-appointed and homey. The beds are super comfy, the windows are large, there’s a mini fridge, a large TV, and everything is in good condition. Charming local nature scenes adorn the walls above the mostly maroon and wood furnishings. If you’re doing some work from the room, there’s a spacious desk and free Wi-Fi that works throughout the whole hotel. Beyond the rooms, the gym is really nice and maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the lobby fireplace is a lovely touch on a colder day. Parking is easy and abundant.

A big highlight for me was the huge breakfast buffet at their restaurant, Preston’s. It has a beautiful spread with delicious comfort foods (but also great gluten & dairy free options if you need those!).

For convenience, you can’t beat the location. You can easily tour campus from the hotel, and you can also walk right into downtown to go wine tasting, eat a great meal, or experience the local culture. There’s abundant and beautiful nature all around.

If you’re in the Blacksburg area for any reason, I would definitely recommend heading to the Inn at Virginia Tech. The hotel is the only full service accommodations in Blacksburg and perfect for your business or leisure travel.
