Hyatt and Dallas-based HALL Group partnered to open Thompson Palm Springs, a grandiose property along Palm Canyon Drive. The hotel is a hub for sophisticated locals and travelers seeking the city’s best in art, leisure, culture and cuisine. It is a short drive from the Palm Springs International Airport, as well as Indio, Joshua Tree, Big Bear and many attractions travelers may seek. Thompson Palm Springs is located at 414 N Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA 92262.
Thompson Palm Springs has 168 bungalow-inspired guestrooms, including 18 suites. The rooms include private balconies and stunning views. To truly elevate the guest experience, Thompson Palm Springs will debut an adults-only tower, Upper Stories, later this year. Upper Stories houses a separate collection of 42 guestrooms with five suites, as well as a private pool and lounge exclusively for its guests.
The hotel features a custom collection of art sourced by Shore Art Advisory, as well as 30,000+ square feet of ground-level retail space, a fitness studio, and 20,000+ square feet of indoor and outdoor event space. It can host celebrations of up to 600 guests, such as weddings, meetings or large social events. Thompson Palm Springs also offers full buy-out packages and additional custom options to best suit guests’ needs.
“Thompson Palm Springs infuses new energy into the rich cultural heritage of Palm Springs, offering a place where everyone who walks through the door feels welcome and at home,” says Jeffrey Miller, general manager, Thompson Palm Springs. “The hotel is intertwined with the support and engagement of the local community, and we are pleased to debut the thoughtfully curated space designed to reflect the vibrant spirit of the great city of Palm Springs.”
Thoughtful Design
SMS Architecture and B2 Design Co. collaborated on the Thompson Palm Springs’ design. The pair created an atmosphere of city sophistication that also offers guests serenity by including a thoughtful mix of desert influences in the property’s appearance. Soft stone, light woods and neutral furnishings are accented by brass fixtures and the vibrant colors found in the hotel’s curated artwork. The lobby welcomes visitors with its open-air design and lushly lined pathways guide guests to their rooms. The rooms are outfitted in warm natural hues, subtle hints of greens and wooden textures to pay homage to the surrounding landscape.
Guestrooms include king, double queen and the 1,750 square foot Thompson Suite. They are equipped with flat screen televisions, SFERRA linens, signature D.S. & DURGA bath amenities, luxe robes and slippers and blackout curtains. Each guestroom has a private balcony with views of the surrounding skyline and San Jacinto Mountains.
Artwork Steeped in Cultural Significance
Palm Springs is rich in art and culture, so it’s no surprise that the hotel would also host its own collection of works, curated by Craig and Kathryn Hall’s long-time partner Virginia Shore. Shore sourced the eclectic works from local and international artists that work with many mediums, from murals and sculptures to paintings, mixed-media pieces and a massive exterior piece.
Thompson Palm Springs’ facade features bands of rainbow-colored glass tiles titled The Land is Speaking…Are You Listening (2022). The piece was conceived by renowned artist Jeffrey Gibson to evoke the kinship we share with the natural world. Gibson, a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and of Cherokee descent, blends traditional Native American art with Modernism and contemporary pop culture to create his vibrant pieces. He worked closely with Virginia Shore and fabricator Stephen Miotto to bring this exterior piece to life.
Once guests enter the lobby, they will find Continuum Basket: Creation, a wall-mounted sculpture by Gerald Clarke. Clarke is a member of the Cahuilla Band of Indians. He lives on the Cahuilla Indian reservation with his family near Anza, California. His art honors the legacy of the Cahuilla basket makers, who gathered grasses and materials from the surrounding desert. Clarke also gathered from the desert, but instead collected cans that littered the landscape and transformed the man-made waste into artwork.
Elevated Dining Concepts
Thompson Palm Springs features Lola Rose Grand Mezze, a Levantine-inspired dining experience from Executive Chef Quentin Garcia. It offers guests and locals brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert and poolside dining options, which they call a “sunlight-to-moonlight” experience. For the menu, Chef Quentin Garcia married his two decades of industry experience with personal travels through Istanbul. Through an array of spreads, greens, grains, charred meats and fresh Pacific fish the menu embraces cultures from Greece to Egypt. The restaurant even has its own in-house tandoor oven which delivers a selection of freshly baked bread. Lola Rose Grand Mezze offers small plates, shareables and large format dishes.
Lola Rose’s Director of Food and Beverage, Chris Talluto, crafted an innovative drink menu to complement the kitchen’s offerings. In addition to the cocktail menu, Lola Rose offers regional beers and wines from California. Their selection of pours are from Santa Barbara, Napa, the Central Coast and Paso Robles.
Additionally, the property recently opened HALL Napa Valley Tasting Room. It showcases a selection of high-quality wines from HALL, WALT and BACA’s Northern California vineyards. In early 2025, a ground-floor Mediterranean concept from Melissa & Matt Hermer’s Boujis Group, Bar Issi, will open.
