Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Hosts Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

On Monday, January 15th, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will host a celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy. During the celebration, they hope to inspire attendees to find their voice and do their part in creating a better world, much like many artists have throughout history with their music.

Timed ticket reservations are required for free admission. In addition to free in-person programming, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will offer free virtual programming to make this event more accessible to all. The programming is presented as part of the Rock the Block Community Days presented by the John P. Murphy Foundation.

Programming includes:

  • Must-see artifacts that directly tie into the story and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These artifacts are on display throughout the entire museum. While visiting, pick up a Must-See Artifacts guide to help you locate these artifacts as you walk through. Additionally, the guide has more resources for extending your visit online.
  • In-exhibit programming in the Root of Rock Exhibit located in the Main Exhibit Hall (Level 0). The program is “Where the Ropes Fell: How Early Rock & Roll Broke Barriers”. Through the program, the Rock Hall’s Education team will discuss how rock & roll helped break literal and figurative racial barriers in a time of legal segregation. Discussion will also include cross-over artists, like Ruth Brown, who had success on the Black and white charts.
  • Film screening in Forest City Theater (Main Exhibit Hall, Level 0). All day, a 22 minute film loop of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech will play.
  • Celebrating Soul Train in Foster Theater (Level 4). Some incredible, memorable clips from the renowned Soul Train will play throughout the day.
  • Gospel artist Courtney Tiara will perform at 12pm and 1:30pm.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will be open on Monday, January 15th from 10am-5pm. Reserve your free ticket here.
