Tribute to Jimmy Buffett Scheduled for Labor Day in Key West

Just a Few Friends, Key West will celebrate Jimmy Buffett on the third anniversary of his passing with a festival on the island. “This is about more than music,” said co-organizer Paul Menta. “We honor Jimmy’s memory by immersing people in the island he loved—the people, the history, the sunsets, the flavors. It’s a celebration of a way of life.” The festival invites attendees to enjoy the place that served as inspiration for the late musician’s songs.

Festivities

Just A Few Friends will feature a variety of activities to celebrate the love Jimmy Buffett had for Key West. The festival begins on Thursday, August 28th with a pre-festival meet up at Chart Room. From a benefit supporting the SPCA to book signings and a city proclamation, there’s something for every fan over the course of the four-day festival. Many activities are planned to show off the island’s unique watering holes and sunset sails that so deeply impacted Buffett’s music. There are even walking tours scheduled to visit places that were of importance to the artist.

Evening concerts include performances by Coral Reefer guitarist Roger Bartlett & the Nautical Wheelers, as well as Buffett’s “Bubbles Up” co-writer, Will Kimbrough. On Sunday, August 31st, the Second Line Memorial Parade will process down Duval Street and end at Truman Waterfront Park. A “Party in the Park” concert will take place, featuring Coral Reefer Band vocalist Nadirah Shakoor and Buffett’s musical friends.

Complete schedule of events can be found here. Event badges are $45. Proceeds from the sale of the festival’s signature Event Badge support three vital local nonprofit organizations: Reef Relief, Bahama Village Music Program, and the Key West High School Marching Band.
