Dolly: A True Original Musical is running through August 31st at Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Belmont University in Nashville. The musical explores the star’s humble beginnings in the Smoky Mountains as well as her seven decades of rhinestone-covered success. The production includes Dolly’s hits – “I Will Always Love You”, “Jolene”, “Coat of Many Colors” and “9 to 5” – and new music written specifically for this labor of love. Dolly: A True Original Musical was produced by Dolly Parton, Danny Nozell, ATG Productions and Gavin Kalin Productions.
“I’ve lived my whole life to see this show on stage,” says Parton. “I’ve written many original songs for the show and included all your favorites in it as well. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera. Pun and fun intended.”
Cast
The show features Katie Rose Clarke, Carrie St. Louis and Quinn Titcomb playing Dolly Parton throughout different stages in her life. The cast also includes John Zdorjeski as ‘Porter Wagoner,’ Jacob Fishel as ‘Sandy Gallin,’ Tabitha Lawing as ‘Little Judy Ogle,’ Tony Award® nominee Beth Malone as ‘Judy Ogle,’ and Danny Wolohan as ‘Uncle Bill.’
The ensemble members include Peri Barnhill, Klea Blackhurst, Sarah Bockel, Jonathan Butler-Duplessis, Joe Carroll, Donald Corren, Ryan Demoville, Olivia Donalson, Sarah Hunt, Ruchir Khazanchi, James Moye, Cole Ragsdale, Maddie Robert, and Alex Ross. Swings and understudies for the Nashville company include Josh Canfield, Tiffany Engen, Todd A. Horman, Norah Nunes, and Kathlynn Rodin. Barnhill is a graduate of Belmont University’s musical theater program who was cast from the national “Search For Dolly”.
