Preview: Cirque du Soleil’s New Country-Themed Show, Songblazers

We love all things Cirque du Soleil and I have personally seen almost all of their touring productions and permanent shows in Vegas. We were so happy to attend the event last week where Cirque du Soleil recently hosted an exclusive media preview for their highly anticipated country-themed show, Songblazers. The event featured a captivating selection of performances that seamlessly blended country music with Cirque du Soleil’s renowned acrobatic artistry.

Held on June 5 at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Belmont University, the cast and crew presented an electrifying Honky Tonk scene to a select group of journalists and photographers. Attendees were treated to a sneak peek of this innovative production, which many noted captured the true essence of a Honky Tonk, enhanced by Cirque du Soleil’s signature flair.

The preview event showcased iconic country songs, including “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus, “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” by Shania Twain, “Red Solo Cup” by Toby Keith, and an original song crafted specifically for Songblazers. The original piece, titled “Carnival Heart,” was written by Sam Williams, grandson of country legend Hank Williams, alongside songwriters PJ Harding and Ned Houston. “Carnival Heart” is an evocative melody inspired by themes of self-discovery, friendship, and hope. Attendees were also mesmerized by breathtaking acrobatic performances and more.

Songblazers also made its public debut on June 7 at Skydeck on Broadway during CMA Fest. This debut was part of the UMG Nashville Takeover at Skydeck for the 2024 CMA Fest, where Sam Williams performed “Carnival Heart,” the ballad he wrote for the show. Williams then introduced a special performance featuring an energetic bartender juggling red solo cups to Toby Keith’s hit single, “Red Solo Cup,” giving the audience a first glimpse into the fusion of Cirque du Soleil and Country Music.

This groundbreaking theatrical production pays homage to both legendary and contemporary trailblazers of country music. It follows the journey of two main characters striving for recognition in the country music scene, offering an unforgettable experience filled with heart and determination.
