If there’s one Mardi Gras parade that lives up to the “go big or go home” spirit of New Orleans, it’s the Krewe of Bacchus. And the 2026 edition? It’s shaping up to be one for the history books — quite literally.
The Krewe of Bacchus once again brought its signature mix of spectacle and star power to the streets of New Orleans, reminding everyone why it remains one of Carnival’s most anticipated Super-Krewes. Named for Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, the parade embraces indulgence, celebration, and larger-than-life fun—delivering a Sunday night party that feels as grand as its mythological namesake.

Among the crowd favorites were the towering signature floats “Bacchagator,” “Bacchasaurus,” and “King Kong,” each rolling by with flashing lights, booming music, and riders eager to live up to the krewe’s festive reputation. These massive, animated floats have become icons in their own right, drawing cheers from parade-goers who wait all year to see them lumber down the Uptown route.

A King Worthy of the Crown
This year, the honor of reigning over one of the most celebrated super krewe parades in the country went to actor Patrick Warburton, best known for his scene-stealing roles in Seinfeld, Family Guy, and A Series of Unfortunate Events. Warburton brought the larger-than-life charisma that Bacchus demands, and he worked the crowd masterfully as the parade rolled down St. Charles Avenue under the Sunday evening sky.
Since its founding in 1969, Bacchus has made a tradition of crowning celebrity kings — from Bob Hope to Will Ferrell — and Warburton fit right into that legendary lineup.

America at 250: A Theme Worth Celebrating
The 2026 parade theme was a sweeping tribute to America’s 250th anniversary, and with 32 magnificent floats rolling through the streets, there was plenty of canvas to paint the full picture of the nation’s story.
Float designers drew from some of the most iconic chapters of American history, including the glittering excess of The Roaring ’20s, the sacrifice and courage of both World War I and World War II, the trailblazing contributions of pioneering women, and the breathtaking beauty of the National Parks. It was a parade that was as educational as it was spectacular — something you don’t often say when beads are flying through the air at your head.

For families, history buffs, and first-time visitors alike, the theme gave every float a story worth watching. The America 250 concept added a layer of meaning to the spectacle that made it especially memorable.

A Special Surprise: Drew Brees Rode for the Hall
One of the most buzzed-about moments of the night was a beloved local legend joining the celebration. Drew Brees — who led the New Orleans Saints to their only Super Bowl title in 2010 and spent 13 seasons as the face of the franchise — rode in a specially designed Bacchus float in honor of his recent induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In a city where Saints football borders on religion, having Brees on that float brought out some of the most passionate cheers of the evening. The roar from the crowd when his float rounded the corner was something else entirely. For Saints fans and anyone who appreciates greatness, it was one of those goosebump moments that only New Orleans can deliver.

What Made It Worth the Trip
The parade stepped off at 5:15 p.m. along the iconic St. Charles Avenue route, winding through Uptown New Orleans before heading toward the CBD. Sunday evening parades always draw enormous crowds, and this one was no exception — the route was packed with revelers who had staked out prime spots hours in advance.

And then there are the throws. With more than a million strings of beads raining down from the floats, the air shimmered with color as riders tossed armful after armful into the sea of outstretched hands below. The Krewe of Bacchus doesn’t just parade—it revels, embodying the spirit of Mardi Gras with bold floats, big personalities, and an unmistakable sense of joy that lingers long after the final bead hits the pavement.

The Krewe of Bacchus delivered once again in 2026. A celebrity king with genuine star power, a patriotic theme perfectly timed to America’s 250th birthday, 32 stunning floats, and a surprise appearance from one of the most beloved figures in Saints history — the parade more than earned its super krewe reputation.

For anyone who was there, it was a Mardi Gras night that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
