Day 2 Coachella Highlights: Green Day Dominates, Charli XCX Brings Star Power, And Yo Gabba Gabba Shines

Day 2 of Coachella 2025 was a bit cooler than day 1, but temperatures were still in the upper 90’s and the sun was out in full force. The day was filled with performances by headliners Charli XCX, Green Day, and Travis Scott as well as big performances from Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Phil, the Misfits, and Weezer.

Saturday at Coachella was also worldwide record store day and it’s always fun to stop in the Record Safari on the Coachella grounds to see what vinyls they have in stock.

Weezer held an early afternoon set on the Mojave despite the recent controversy surrounding bassist Scott Shriner’s wife being shot and arrested by police last week. Nonetheless, the band jammed out to many of their hit songs including favorites “Undone – The Sweater Song” and “Say It Ain’t So.” Lead vocalist Rivers Cuomo announced during the set that Weezer has “been busy making the Weezer movie back in L.A. the last couple weeks,” a project that fans have been speculating but have received little detail about until now.

Brazilian superstar Alok had an amazing DJ set with choreography and dancers. The dancers, all dressed in black with long silver gloves mimed actions along to the beats creating some of the most captivating visuals of the festival weekend. Alok is currently one of the biggest artists in Brazil, recently playing to over a million people in Rio. He was even ranked the 4th best DJ in the world by DJ Mag for four years in a row. He opened with his song “Truth Peace Love Acid” and continued on to mix songs by artists including Eliminate and Fred Again.

Five monsters – Muno, Brobee, Foofa, Toodee and Plex – from the children’s show Yo Gabba Gabba! were a Saturday highlight and brought out a packed crowd. The monsters ended their set with The Muppets’ “Rainbow Connection” joined by surprise guests. The crowd erupted into applause as “Weird Al” Yankovic, Portugal. The Man, Thundercat, and Paul Williams, who co-wrote the 1978 song, joined YGG! to sing. The monsters also had fun dancing around on stage with fellow mascots like the Duolingo Owl and a Carebear, among many others.

The multiple GRAMMY winning LA Philharmonic Orchestra played the outdoor stage for a sunset set and brought out guests including Maren Morris and Laufy. The Phil played Laufy’s “Silver Lining” and “From the Start” as well as Morris’ “My Church” with a lively church choir. Later in their set, the orchestra welcomed Becky G to the stage for “Shower” and LL Cool J for “Mama Said Knock You Out.” You never knew who was coming out next to accompany this incredibly talented group of artists.

We spent some quality time at DoLab on Saturday afternoon first catching the high energy set from ZULAN.The setting is gorgeous under the flowing colorful colors of the stage and the vibes are impeccable.

Trixie Mattel brought the whole Coachella crowd into the DoLab for her DJ set. Her glamorous pink outfit and perfectly coiffed blonde hair stood out as she did a choreographed performance with dancers onstage. The crowd cheered her on as she lip synced to various songs, surprising guests with an appearance from singer-songwriter Vincint to sing RuPaul’s “Cover Girl.”

Before singer Clairo came out for her set on the Outdoor Stage, Senator and activist Bernie Sanders came out and gave a short speech telling the fans in the crowd that they are the generation that matters in restoring justice in our country. He referenced Clairo’s support of the families being harmed in Gaza, ending the war on Palestine, and her support of women’s rights. When Senator Sanders began a sentence with “we’ve got a president,” the crowd erupted into “boos.” After the political speech, Clairo delivered an amazing concert singing fan-favorites like “Juna,” “Sofia,” and “Bags.”

In the midst of her BRAT arena tour, Charli XCX had a headline-worthy performance on the Main Stage. Her techno party anthems were popular among the crowd that danced and sang along. Her good friend and fellow singer Troye Sivan joined her on stage for “Talk talk.” She then went into her viral hit “Apple” with model Alex Consani, Queen Blackwell, and Gabriette doing the TikTok Apple dance on stage. Next, Lorde was welcomed on stage for “Girl, so confusing” as her and Charli strutted down the stage. Her final surprise guest moment was
when Billie Eilish came out for their collaborative song “Guess.” Charli definitely brought the party to the desert! She didn’t allow any press at her set so unfortunately there are no photos to show the performance.

Green Day won the day and possibly the whole damn weekend of music with all the hits and pyro on the Main Stage. The band, formed in 1987 proved they still are a main stage headliner. Lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong opened the set with “American Idiot,” changing the lyrics to “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda,” which was met with approving screams from the crowd. Armstrong ended the 80-minute set by asking a fan to play his acoustic guitar for the last song, the 1997 hit “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life).” The crowd for Green Day was one of the biggest we have ever seen at Coachella and every single person was literally happy and having the time of their lives.

Travis Scott closed out the night with a disappointing set with lots of pyro and smoke on a stage in the middle of the crowd. His set started 20 minutes late at Midnight and many songs were cut short, leaving the audience dissatisfied. Hidden behind a lot of autotune, Scott sang unreleased songs “Oh Jacques” and “She Going Dumb.” Despite performing multiple songs by artists like Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert, the set did not include any special guests.
