Woodford Reserve

The art of making bourbon first took place on the site of the Woodford Reserve Distillery, a National Historic Landmark, in 1812. Today, Woodford Reserve is one of the most beloved stops on Kentucky’s historic Bourbon Trail. During my Kentucky photo trip we stopped at the distillery for a tour and of course a taste of some of the best bourbon in the United States.

The tour through the grounds of the distillery explores the history of bourbon, their five sources of flavor, and the historic barrelhouse resting along Glenn’s Creek. The tour last approximately one hour and ends with a tasting session.

Chris Morris is the head Master Distiller at Woodford Reserve; he spends his days innovating and planning future releases. Chris was the mastermind behind Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Rye, and Master’s Collection. Chris was responsible for creating the world’s first bourbon finished in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Barrels. He’s also credited with developing the world’s first maple barrel.

Woodford Reserve also offers a way to create your own personalized label and ship to you or a friend making it an ideal gift for bourbon lovers. Their website is also a great resource for quarantine cocktail recipes.

While onsite you can enjoy a wonderful meal or traditional southern treats at Glenn’s Creek Café where renowned Kentucky Chef Ouita Michel is the chef in residence. They even sell Crank & Boom Bourbon Honey ice cream by the pint.
