Top Trends In Travel For 2023

If 2022 was the official year of the world opening back up then 2023 will be filled with even more travel. Conde Nast Traveller has unveiled some of their top trends in travel and Airbnb has unveiled some top 2023 destinations as well. Here’s what you need to know about trending travel things for this year and a few trends that stood out to us:

Fancier Airport Lounges – More travelers are finding ways to access airport lounges. British Airways and American Airlines have opened newer lounges in JFK Airport. Delta One opened massive lounges in New York and Los Angeles exclusively for first-class travelers flying Delta.

Luxury Hotel Yachts – Some high-end hotel brands have their own yachts and travelers who can afford it, are in for a real treat. For example, the Evrima from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection will be setting sail for its inaugural season this year. Last year, Four Seasons confirmed the launch of a cruise ship with 95 suites. With amazing destinations, itineraries, amenities, and shore experiences this could be another winning trend for lavish traveling.

But it’s not only about luxurious and expensive travel! The trends of wellness, education and culture appeals to travelers as well.

Educational Itineraries – While some travelers want to relax, no matter what you’re looking to explore, there’s a lesson in traveling. Explorers are craving even more meaningful experiences and educational plans when traveling has become more important. “In a recent survey conducted by the luxury travel provider, almost 90% of respondents ranked the appeal of ‘luxury educational travel experiences’ at 8, 9 or 10 out of 10” according to CN Traveler.

Travel Led By Indigenous Communities – From various communities in Australia to aboriginal groups in Canada, there seems to be a global shift for tours to learn about indigenous people, led by indigenous people. Uganda’s new Gahinga Batwa Village is highlighted in CN Traveller’s list, this is one of the most important trends because it’s about preservation. The village provides a permanent home for one of Central Africa’s oldest surviving indigenous groups. In Peru, there are also new indigenous-led groups like Bonanza Tours, which shows parts of the Amazon.

Airbnb also put out its list of biggest destinations trending based on search traffic. In their latest report, Australia, Brazil and New Zealand were some trending destinations for 2023.
