Nina & Pinta

The Nina and the Pinta made its way back to the Cincinnati area just in time for Labor Day weekend. These ships are replicas of the famous Christopher Columbus ships that traveled for seven months across the Atlantic ocean and made landfall in the Americas in 1492.

The Nina was built by hand and without the use of power tools and is considered to be the most historically accurate Columbus replica ever built, according to a press release. The Pinta was built in 2005 in Brazil, but the ships now travel together creating a “sailing museum” across the United States for 11 months throughout the year.

We took the self-guided tour of the boats and found it to be an interesting look at history, in person, by walking around the vessels. It was very hard to imagine how a crew was able to travel the great distance on these ships made for trading. To see where the ships will be docking or volunteer to be part of a journey check out www.ninapinta.org.
