Cleveland came together Saturday for the return of MGK Day, the city-sanctioned celebration honoring hometown hero Machine Gun Kelly and the culture that helped shape him. What began as a tribute to mgk’s impact on his hometown has grown into one of Cleveland’s signature summer events, bringing together music fans, skateboarders, local artists, businesses and nonprofit organizations for a weekend centered on creativity and community.
The 2026 celebration began Friday with the Red Bull Best Trick Contest at Crooked River Skatepark before moving into Saturday’s full slate of activities. The day included the MGK Day Tailgate at North Coast Yard, the annual Harley-Davidson City Ride and the MGK Day Art + Community Festival, powered by Webull.
Cleveland Culture Takes Center Stage
Throughout the festival grounds, local vendors, food trucks, artists, merchandise and community activations gave fans plenty to explore before the music began. The event also highlighted the city’s skateboarding and street-art culture, with this year’s official MGK Day poster designed by legendary artist Mike Giant. It was hot in Cleveland so fans were encouraged to stay hydrated on the late summer afternoon.
MGK Day has also developed a strong philanthropic mission. Through partnerships with the Lost Poets Society and other nonprofit organizations, the event supports underserved youth and families through arts, wellness and educational initiatives.
The celebration comes after another busy year for mgk, who spent the summer on the Lost Americana Tour with longtime collaborator Wiz Khalifa. The pair also recently released blog era boyz, a nine-track collaborative mixtape that blends melodic hip-hop, alternative influences and the nostalgic energy of the mixtape era.
Wiz Khalifa Gets the Party Started
The evening’s music lineup was headlined by Wiz Khalifa and mgk, but a delay getting fans into the festival pushed the start of Wiz Khalifa’s set to approximately 7 p.m. Wiz made a memorable entrance wearing a hot pink and black ski mask before removing it during the performance and settling into a crowd-pleasing set packed with some of his biggest hits.
His set included “Taylor Gang,” “On My Level,” “You and Your Friends,” “The Thrill,” “Roll Up,” “No Sleep,” “Black and Yellow,” “Work Hard, Play Hard,” “23,” “We Dem Boyz,” “See You Again” and “Young Wild & Free.”
“Black and Yellow” was an especially fitting choice for a Cleveland crowd, while the mix of older favorites and newer material kept the audience moving throughout the set.
mgk Brings It Home
Then it was time for Cleveland’s own mgk to take the stage just after 8 p.m. The hometown connection was impossible to miss as he opened with “Tell Me What’s Up” before launching into “Kiss Kiss,” which featured dancing ketchup and mustard bottles—a playful nod to Cleveland Browns Stadium and the city’s football culture.
mgk continued with “Maybe” and “I Think I’m OKAY,” bringing a young fan dressed like the singer onto the stage during the performance. It was one of the night’s most personal moments and a reminder of the connection mgk has built with generations of Cleveland fans.
As the weather began to change, mgk shifted gears with “outlaw overture,” delivering a slower, more acoustic version as rain began pouring down over the festival grounds.
The set continued with “Wild Boy / El Diablo” and “Till I Die,” before inclement weather forced the performance to be cut short as stage equipment went down. After a 30 minute delay, mgk came back on stage visibly upset to play one final acoustic song. The emotional display of “cliche” closed out the night. The singer told the crowd that he was planning on this being the last version of the MGK Day in the city but then said he couldn’t let it end like this. So everyone is hoping for a 2027 version of the festival.
The shortened set was disappointing for fans hoping for a full hometown performance, but the night still captured what makes MGK Day different from a traditional concert.
More Than a Concert
MGK Day has become a celebration of Cleveland itself. Music may be at the heart of the event, but skateboarding, art, local businesses, philanthropy and community are equally important pieces of the experience.
For mgk, bringing thousands of people together in the city that shaped him is personal. For Cleveland, MGK Day has become another way to showcase the creativity, resilience and unmistakable personality of the city.
Even with rain putting an early end to mgk’s set, MGK Day 2026 delivered a full day of Cleveland culture—and another reminder that this hometown celebration is about much more than one artist. It is about giving the city a stage of its own.
