Nashville’s New 9to5K Brings Dolly-Inspired Fun and Philanthropy to Downtown This Fall

Nashville is known for doing things its own way, and this fall runners, walkers, and Dolly Parton fans alike will have the chance to experience a race unlike any other. On September 5, 2026, Run Nash will debut the inaugural 9to5K Run & Walk, a high-energy event combining fitness, music, costumes, and community spirit in the heart of downtown Nashville.

Inspired by the larger-than-life personality and enduring legacy of Dolly Parton, the event promises a race-day experience filled with rhinestones, big hair, and plenty of Nashville flair while supporting two important local organizations: United Way of Greater Nashville and Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee.

More Than Just a Race

While the 9to5K includes a brand-new 5K course winding through downtown Nashville, organizers are emphasizing that this event is about much more than crossing a finish line.

Participants can choose from several race options, including the traditional 5K, a family-friendly one-mile walk, the Dolly Dash Kids Run, and one of the event’s most anticipated attractions—the Stiletto Dash. Along the way, runners and spectators can expect themed entertainment, photo opportunities, costume contests, and plenty of over-the-top fun designed to celebrate the city’s vibrant personality.

Organizers are encouraging participants to fully embrace the theme. Whether that means showing up in a sparkling rhinestone jacket, a classic business suit inspired by “9 to 5,” or a full Dolly-inspired ensemble complete with big hair and sequins, creativity is highly encouraged.

“We wanted to create something that feels uniquely Nashville: fun, a little over-the-top and open to everyone,” said Run Nash founder Malain McCormick. “Whether you’re racing for a PR or showing up in full Dolly glam, this is about celebrating the city and having a great time doing it.”

Supporting Literacy and Local Families

Beyond the costumes and festivities, the 9to5K carries an important mission.

Participants will have the option to donate during registration, with proceeds benefiting United Way of Greater Nashville and Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee. The organizations work together to improve opportunities for children and families throughout the region, with a particular focus on early childhood literacy.

The Imagination Library program provides age-appropriate books to children regardless of family income, helping foster a love of reading from an early age. Additional support will help fund broader initiatives aimed at strengthening families and communities across Middle Tennessee.

“We are grateful to Run Nash and the 9to5K for choosing United Way of Greater Nashville and Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee as the supported nonprofit partners for the 2026 9to5K,” said Erica Mitchell, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Nashville. “This partnership not only raises funds but also helps shine a spotlight on the importance of early childhood literacy and strengthening the building blocks families need to thrive.”

A Celebration of Nashville

Run Nash has built a reputation for creating locally focused events that showcase the spirit of Music City, and the 9to5K appears poised to continue that tradition.

The Nashville-based event company specializes in producing running experiences that blend athletic achievement with community engagement, often incorporating local culture, entertainment, and charitable giving into every event. The 9to5K may be its most distinctly Nashville concept yet.

With more than 1,000 participants expected for the inaugural race, organizers hope the event will become an annual tradition that celebrates the city’s unique blend of music, hospitality, creativity, and community involvement.
