A Magical Night at Winter Lantern Festival Inside Bayou Segnette State Park

If you’re looking for a way to add a sparkle of wonder to your winter nights, the Winter Lantern Festival just outside New Orleans is a must-do. Held at Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego, this event transforms the wetlands and walking paths into a vibrant wonderland of light, art, and culture. From November 2025 through early January, the park comes alive after dark with hundreds of glowing lanterns, live acrobatic performances, and family-friendly fun.

As evening falls and you step into the park, you will find yourself surrounded by a fantastical landscape of color and light. Lanterns of every shape and size — from delicate flowers to towering dragons, mythical creatures, and whimsical animals — illuminate the path. These handcrafted lanterns merge modern LED lighting with traditional silk-and-wire frames, offering a beautiful fusion of craftsmanship and technology.

Each display tells a story, drawing from Chinese folklore, nature, and imaginative artistry — turning a simple stroll into a glowing journey through myths, legends, and visual surprises. You’ll likely want to take your time at every turn: the lanterns are intricate, the colors radiant, and the details invite lots of photos.
