Amsterdam Airport Introduces Plan to Compensate Inconvenienced Travelers

Anyone who has traveled over the summer (even if you haven’t) has heard travel horror stories. From missed flights, lost luggage, countless extra time waiting, staffing shortages and much more. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol will is planning to offer a temporary way to get compensation if you missed a flight due to long lines.

For travelers who were at the airport on time between April 23, 2022 and August 11, 2022 and missed their flight due to long security lines might be able to be compensated temporarily, according to a press release.

If you traveled during the aforementioned period and incurred costs due to a missed flight while waiting in a long queue, you can submit a compensation request here to the airport until September 30, 2022.

Compensation costs include funds spent to rebook a flight or for a replacement flight, for alternative transport if they have chosen to travel to a destination by other means, or for extra travel costs incurred to travel to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol or another airport.

Travelers can also claim accommodation costs at or near Schiphol and the expenses for non-cancellable accommodation, transport or activities at their destination.

“A lot of people have really been looking forward to their holidays abroad, especially after two years of COVID. We’re extremely sorry that some people have missed their flight due to the long security control queue. They’ve had to miss out on all or part of their holiday, and we really sympathize with them,” said CEO Dick Benschop of Schiphol in the release.

“During these special times and circumstances, we must not let these people fall through the cracks,” Benschop continued in the release.
