Sonoma County Winery Aperture Announces New Collection

Aperture, founded by first-generation winemaker Jesse Katz, has announced its avant-garde wine collection Collage. The collection utilizes the best expressions from each Aperture site and layers them to create a bold new expression that celebrates the diversity of Sonoma County. Over a decade’s worth of knowledge, creativity, collaboration and precision farming has led to this innovative project’s fruition.

At the core, the Aperture brand was inspired by the travels that Katz had as a child with his father, photographer Andy Katz. Through those international travels, the two sipped wine with Olivier Leflaive and his family as well as visited the famous wine cellar of Cheval Blanc. Now, Jesse Katz makes the world-renowned wine and his father’s photographs adorn the labels.

The Birth of Collage

For Collage, selection was chosen from 200 acres of vineyards and 300 individual lots, including estate vines that were planted in 1912. Katz and his Aperture team took the best of five distinct appellations to create two unique blends. The 2022 Proprietary White Wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc that was sourced from multiple sites and aged for 18 months in barrels and six additional months in custom concrete vessels. This process refines the wine’s purity while simultaneously amplifying its complexity. The 2021 Proprietary Red Wine aged for 24 months in barrel, six months in custom concrete vessels, and one year in bottle.

Collage’s inaugural vintage collection was unveiled at Aperture Estate on May 3rd, during a launch party. Guests included wine connoisseurs, collectors, culinary masters, artists, musicians, friends and family. The collection includes the 2022 Proprietary White Wine, which is offered in a three box set for $375. The 2021 Proprietary Red Wine is also included in the collection and its three box set price is $1,275. Both will be released on May 13th via Aperture’s website as well as later this summer in their estate tasting room. For more information about Collage, visit www.aperture-cellars.com/collage.
