The Rockettes Dazzle In The Christmas Spectacular At Radio City Music Hall

The Christmas Spectacular Show is now playing at Radio City Music Hall in New York City where the world-famous Rockettes perform multiple shows each day during the holiday season. For 90 minutes, the Rockettes, donned in their sparkly Christmas outfits, display their talents with intricate dance routines and incredibly high kicks.

The show is composed of 9 different dance numbers, one of which, “Dance of the Frost Fairies”, includes magical flying fairy drones that soar over the audience. The Rockettes also perform some of their classics like “The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers” and “The Living Nativity” which have been included in their show since the 1930’s.

In the “Parade of Wooden Soldiers” the ladies are dressed in nutcracker costumes and perform with precision in lines moving around the stage that had us breathless as they completed the trust fall at the end.

The performances began December 17th and have been extended until January 4th. Shows occur from 2 to 5 times a day, giving ample opportunities for you and your family to see the amazing show.

The Rockettes have been performing at Radio City Music Hall for nearly a century. The troupe came together in 1925 when Russell Markurt, chief choreographer, sought to achieve absolute precision and uniformity in the movements of dancers. Rockettes originally had to be within strict height standards and be proficient in tap, modern, jazz, and ballet.

In the early days of the show, Radio City Music Hall became the Rockettes home away from home. They worked, played, ate and often slept within its walls. Facilities include a 26-bed dormitory, cafeteria, recreation area, tailor shop and hospital with medical staff. In the 1970’s Radio City began closing its doors more frequently, leaving the Rockettes looking for work. They began traveling across the West Coast and performed for sold-out crowds in Las Vegas. In 1978, Radio City was on the brink of shutting down due to financial issues, but the Rockettes rallied together and got Radio City labeled as a New York City landmark, saving it from destruction.

It’s safe to say that the Rockettes have a passion for performing and big dreams when it comes to giving their gift of dance to the crowds of thousands that come to see them every year. Their hard work and enthusiasm never ceases to amaze and wow the crowds in their outstanding Christmas Spectacular Shows.
